‘Baseline Brain Vs Super Brain’
Today I thought I’d simply share an excellent resource from the first brain book I read - one that gave me hope with a completely new way to look at things -
Super Brain by Deepak Chopra and Rudolph Tanzi.
The start of the book provides 8 lists which compare a ‘Baseline Brain’ to a ‘Super Brain’.
I’ve collated a selection in the form of 2 lists.
As we take a look through, we can consider -
Which do we relate to?
Which would we like to aspire to?
BASELINE BRAIN
‘I like familiarity’
‘I can’t really say I’m growing as much as when I was younger’
‘If I learn a new skill, I take it only so far’
‘I am resistant to change and sometimes feel threatened by it’
‘I spend a good deal of time on passive things like watching television’
‘I worry about depression or am depressed’
‘My thoughts can be obsessive, scary, or anxious’
‘I have felt out of control recently in at least one area of my life’
‘My stress level is too high but I put up with it’
‘It’s been a while since I felt really inspired’
SUPER BRAIN
'I will keep evolving my whole lifetime’
‘If I’m not good at something first time, that’s ok, I like the challenge’
‘I like reinventing myself’
‘I’m inspired by my life on a day-to-day basis’
‘I feel comfortably in control’
‘My mood is consistently good’
‘Despite unexpected events, my life is headed in the direction I want it to go’
‘I like the way my mind thinks’
When I reviewed this list the first time a few years ago, I found the ‘Super Brain’ characteristics inspiring but they also felt quite out of reach.
If you feel the same, I can tell you now, they’re not.
Now, even I am surprised at how much I comfortably resonate with this side of the comparison.
Yes it takes time but it’s simply a matter of starting small and taking things step by step!
Because what’s the alternative?
The alternative just isn’t worth it right?
