We can rewire our brain / ‘high achiever’ potential…

You know those ‘high achievers’ who you look at and think, how do they do it?

You think, you could never imagine being like them...

I used to think this way.

Now I challenge this thinking.

Let’s take musicians for example.

I used to put professional musicians on a pedestal.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love and have a lot of respect for many musicians however I also now know, they’re really just like the rest of us…

The difference is in the way their mind works.

They might have consciously trained their mind to be this way.

Or, it might be the way their mind typically works, based on nature/nurture.

The more I’ve gone down the self-development path, the more I’ve understood the power and potential of managing our mind.

It can allow us to transform ourselves. To create who we want to be. To achieve whatever it is we want to achieve!

Here’s a breakdown to help explain further:

  • Managing our mind to do the work we need to do

e.g. understanding why we’re procrastinating and overcoming the procrastination

  • Managing our mind to manage our emotions

e.g. understanding when we feel fear and working out what course of action to take - this may be sitting with the feeling and taking the fearful action anyway

  • Managing our mind to regularly practise/build expertise in a desired skill

e.g. managing our emotions to commit to a regular routine or learning how to shape our brain in the best way for the skill

  • Managing our mind for information gathering

e.g. researching the ‘how to’ for what we want to achieve

  • Managing our mind to tune into (and follow) our creativity and intuition

e.g. allowing space for this and connecting our mind and body

Here’s the thing -

We’ve all heard the stories of high achievers who were originally ‘average’.

They managed their mind to commit to regularly practising and building their skill or expertise.

Or perhaps we’ve heard of those who already had a talent but were too fearful to share it.

They managed their mind to understand and look past the fears they had, to share their talent anyway.

Or we’ve heard of the people who thought they were bad at maths at school but ended up in a successful career using maths.

They managed their mind to believe they could do it and develop their brain’s capability to do so.

Hopefully now, this is starting to make sense…

And hopefully now, you believe you can use your mind in this way too.

Here’s a get started challenge:

  • Think of one thing you’ve always considered trying but haven’t because you thought you wouldn’t be good at it.

  • How can you use your mind to overcome this and just go for it?
