3 tips for remembering what you read

Do you ever get so absorbed and fascinated by something you are reading?

Only to realise the details have completely left your mind soon after?

If so, I can relate!

I had one of these moments after reading the other day.

I managed to allow the initial frustration to pass and then thought, what can I do to help my comprehension and memory?

I came up with the following - perhaps it can help you too.

While reading, essentially ASK QUESTIONS.

Here’s my 1, 2, 3 question break down!

1. Do I understand this information?

Could I easily re tell it to someone in my own words?

2. How does the information relate to me?

Can I connect it with something I already know or have experienced?

3. What are my views or opinions around it?

Or, what other questions would I be curious to ask someone?

Having these 3 questions in mind, encourage us to process the information effectively so we can better remember it!

Nooow we can share that facinating bit of reading with someone without going completely blank.

This sharing, further reinforcing those neural connections and our memory too!

An important reminder with applying these sorts of things also, is it that it takes time and practice.

Simply start with the intention.

Give it a go when you can and keep giving it a go.

And most importantly, be kind to yourself!

One day, you’ll look back and find it hard to believe how far you’ve come.
