Get out of your head & into your body

There’s something I keep coming back to.

A game changing concept and strategy.

That is -

To get out of your head.

And into your body.

For clearer thinking, for ease of thinking, for expansive thinking, for the joy of thinking.

Just a few select phrases that come to mind.

They’re personal reflections from my own experimentation.

Now, I realise a lot of my writing on here may seem simplistic, unfounded.

But from my personal experience alone, it does feel very real. You’ve got to start somewhere and it is called a journal for a reason.

Even from a quick search though, I have identified a book in existence called ‘Whole Body Intelligence - Get Out Of Your Head And Into Your Body To Achieve Greater Wisdom, Confidence, And Success’ by Steve Sisgold.

So there you go, others have connected with this idea.

Anyway back to it -

Here’s what I feel happens if I’m too ‘in my head’:

- I lose any kind of decent perspective

- I make things a lot harder than they actually are

- My negative thinking gets in the way

- Sensations I’m feeling but don’t have an awareness of (based on my body’s stress response to a situation, perhaps linked to subconscious belief patterns) get in the way. For example, any tension I’m holding restricts clear thinking or learning capacity

How I get more ‘in my body’ to combat this?

- By checking in with my breath

(Having an awareness and ensuring I’m breathing nice and evenly, expanded my stomach rather than breathing upwards)

- By letting go of any tension I’m holding

(E.g. clenched jaw)

- By creating a sense of distance from the task

(Perhaps looking up and around, acknowledging the wider space and situation I’m in to gain full perspective)

- By reminded myself I’m capable

(This may be head related but I believe it’s still key once my body is out of the stress response state)

Those are my thoughts for you today and I am excited to build on this in future!

You can take advantage of this strategy now though.

Use the above guide to get out of your own head and into your body for benefits all round!
