Blank moments and little wins
You know those moments in a conversation when you go blank on a word or name?
When it feels like time stands still?
As you exist in combined nervousness, embarrassment and panic..?
I think many people do!
Now I have already written about blank moments so this is a follow up of sorts.
Personally, I’ve been continuing to use the ways of working through these situations and I’ve recently felt it really paying off.
This is an opportunity to celebrate a little win, which we should all remember to do, and to share the suggested strategies again.
So, when you can’t quite think of the name of the book you’re reading even though you know you know it, the name of that cafe or a particular word then do not despair!
Here are my suggestions to bear in mind and give a go!
Firstly, it’s ok. Everyone forgets sometimes and we can’t remember everything all the time
Those moments that FEEL like forever are most likely only 2-3 seconds in reality…
Fudge it if you need to and give yourself time! For example, just bypass what you were going to say or throw it to the other person and ask if they know. It’s all good…
Stay calm in the moment and breathe
Tell yourself the word will come to you and believe it
If all else fails, just laugh it off. It happens to the best of us
Finally, when that name or word does come to you or you notice your general recall is consistently getting better, take a moment to acknowledge this and celebrate!
These are little wins.
And it’s the little wins that build to bigger ones.
