How I train myself to focus - 8 tips

How frustrating is it when you have something you want to get done but you just keeeeeep getting distracted?

But, what if we could just do the thing we want to do? And the next thing too?

It requires focus. But with all the distractions these days, how do we do it?

As an ex big time procrastinator of even the smallest of tasks, here are 8 tips I’ve learnt to put into practice so I can actually just do the things.

8 Tips to Train Yourself to Focus!

1. Don’t feel guilty about finding it hard to focus (it’s how we’re wired)

2. Breathe…and connect with the ‘now’

3. Frame your thoughts - you can do this!

4. Feel the discomfort and remind yourself - it’s normal to feel this right now, embrace it

5. Commit to focusing on the ONE task

6. Make a small goal - even 2 minutes of focus time!

7. Remind yourself of the satisfying feeling you’ll have afterwards

8. C E L E B R A T E (you did good).

A personal story:

At a previous office job, it seemed I had such an aversion to just doing the work (/procrastination) that cups of tea were calling me, all, the, time.

When I sat at my desk and computer, I couldn’t sit still and just couldn’t focus.

I was oblivious to the idea that my brain and body didn’t want me to do hard things, it just wanted me to stay alive in the most comfortable way possible…

I was wound up in anxiousness from the procrastination and I was in freeze mode from the fear of the work not being ‘perfect’.

A ‘get started’ challenge for you -

Ask yourself, what’s a task you’ve been meaning to do that you could use the above 8 tips on?
